My Story
My 60th year in the dirt business.
I have a PHD - Profound Horticultural Desire - in dirt. Over the years, I have learned a lot from my customers along with a lot of trials and a few errors. I enjoy touring the countryside, making deliveries, meeting people and, most of all - making compost! |
Organic Gardening Organic gardening - many folks are concerned about where their food comes from and the effects of pesticides, herbicides, e-coli, sewer sludge irrigation, chemical fertilizers and heavy metals in the growing process.
What I don't use in my compost mixes is just as important as what I do use. I do not use human waste, sea waste, food waste, colors or chemicals. I do use (in no particular order): - Horse, cow and poultry manure - Green grass clippings (no chemicals) - Shredded leaves - High mineral sand - Hardwood chips - Sawdust I blend these for high humus and high nitrogen. It takes about eight months of letting it heat, turning it and screening it to make rich compost that won't burn new plants and smells like dirt. It's truly Black Gold!- |
